THIS GOVERNMENT IS INTERESTED IN NIS PROJECT
– SPORTS MINISTER
In a speech which he delivered at the recently held combined Convocation by the National Institute for Sports, Barrister Solomon Selcap Dalung, the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development assured that the Buhari Administration is interested in and is committed to the NIS project. His Speech:
I am delighted and honoured to address this distinguished gathering of the 7th Convocation Ceremony of the National Institute for Sports.
Today, another set of over 1,500 Coaches and Sports Administrators are being recognized and expected to play pivotal roles in the Sports Industry, having been subjected to the rigour of academic, technical and scientific knowledge.
I have never lost sight of the strategic role of National Institute for Sports (NIS) in the Sports industry. NIS has progressively grown to be regarded as the “Sports Alma-mater” in Nigeria, taking cognizance of giant strides recorded in the past. My maiden visit to our esteemed Institute, afforded me appreciable depth of acquaintance in area of progress made so far, the challenges and the prospects ahead.
In order to give direction, and sustain leadership of NIS on Sport research, Coaching and Management, the Governing Council of the NIS was inaugurated in March, 2018. The caliber of its members under the leadership of Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima (MFR) is very re-assuring and I had no doubt in my mind that new Council would improve on the lofty objectives and achievements of its predecessors. During the inauguration of the Governing Council, I charged you to steer the course of the Institution to ensure that, it remains the premier Institute rises to become the best Sports training Institution in Africa and possibly beyond. With what I have seen so far, within the short period of your tenure, the Governing Council is on course despite limited resources. I should congratulate you for organizing this 7th combined convocation ceremony that has brought great relief to the Coaches and Sports Managers who graduated over the period, spanning 14 years. I therefore charge the Governing Council to sustain the tempo and pursue with same spirit, the accreditation of the programme of this great Institute.
I will not end this speech without appreciating the private sector which partnered with National Institute for Sports to make the event a reality. Public Private Partnership is critical to attainment of government objectives in these days of dwindling government resources. I implore other private organizations to join suit in harnessing the potentials of Sports for overall National development. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I wish to assure this eminent gathering that the Presidency has shown interest in NIS project. I therefore direct the Institute’s authority to articulate its challenges to be presented to the Commander in Chief. I assure you all that the government will continue to create a conducive environment for Sports development with a view to stand tall in the comity of nations.
Thanks and God bless you.
Barrister Solomon Selcap Dalung
